A youthful Coventry City side beat Corinthians 2-0 in the final of the Soccer7sSeries Men's Open thanks to a spectacular final performance from captain Kai Yearn.
In the space of two seven-minute halves, 20-year-old Yearn scored a goal, got an assist and made a goal-line clearance for his own hat-trick of sorts to drive the Blues to the trophy.
It was a well-earned title for unbeaten Coventry who got better as the tournament went on – the final victory against an experienced Corinthians team was the culmination of their journey.
In the Plate competition, two goals from Gabriel Quak ensured home team Singapore FC won some silverware. Hashtag United won the Shield competition, defeating Albirex Niigata 3-0 in the final.
In the first quarter-final, Hashtag and QPR played out a 2-2 thriller before going to golden goal, with QPR captain Jake Leahy scoring from near the halfway line as the keeper was up the other end.
Selangor FC were also knocked out on golden goal after a goalless match against Vasco da Gama, with Glauberson finishing a team move straight from the extra-time kick-off.
Corinthians joined their fellow Brazilians in the semi-finals after beating Taichung Rock 2-0. Coventry ensured two Brazil v England finals after Joshua Toluwaloju's second-half winner saw them get past Shanghai Shenhua 1-0.
In the semi-finals, Cristian Barbosa broke the deadlock for Corinthians against QPR, getting his head on a goal-bound shot to lead them into the final. For Coventry vs Vasco, Tristen Batanwi's gorgeous heel flick put them ahead before Elliot Betjemann put the game to bed in the dying stages.
In the final, Yearn whipped a free-kick past the keeper from 25 yards to open the scoring, then tracked back to make a goal-line clearance before crossing perfectly for Batanwi to head in Coventry's second. Goalkeeper Oscar Varney made a couple of smart late saves to seal the Soccer7sSeries crown for the Blues.
